Thank you to the volunteers that came to help out today with our fun lunch.
Reminders:
- Tomorrow is Fresh Air Friday. We will be doing some weeding as well as continuing our investigation boat making and buoyancy.
Learning Highlights:
- This morning we worked on adding more details to our story maps. This week our focus is on the 3 events in our story string. Next week we will be making puppets of our characters so that we can rehearse telling the story before we begin to write it. This helps us to build in extra details and to make sure that the events in the story make sense before we try to write everything down.
- In word work, the grade two have been working on editing skills. Today they had to edit a paragraph that Mrs. Hamby had written. They had to use yellow for punctuation. We used red for spelling corrections and blue for adding details and descriptive words (adjectives). Grade ones had reading time, solo book time.
- In math, Mrs. Hamby's group worked on making their adding doubles flip book. Mrs. Armour's group worked on adding doubles (twins), number families (Number house family) and using the strategy of counting on. In Mrs. Yoon's math group they worked on reviewing some of the work they have been doing using the ones and tens blocks to show numbers to 99. We also had to add numbers using the blocks.
In social studies, we looked at the Blue Nose Schooner since it is a very famous schooner that was made in Nova Scotia. Since we are also going to be boat builders it makes sense for us to look at how boats are made, parts of boats and some research about boats. We began a sketch of the Blue Nose. We talked about the bow, stern, starboard and Port side of the boat.
- In gym we played a running game outside called Ships Ahoy. It involved lots of running and following commands as well as trying to remember the parts of the ship.
- In music we used our recorders and worked on recorder karate. We got to take our recorders outside to play in our own spaces on the compound. Some even passed one or two belts today.
