Happy Holidays....

This week has been very exciting so far.  We have been very busy little elves and our classroom has been like a workshop.  We were sad to say goodbye to Aditya on Monday but we are excited for him and wish him and his family well as they are moving to Houston, warmer climates!  This is also Mrs. Yoon's last week working with room 2.  After the break Mrs. Boyer will be back at Dr. Coffin.
Enjoy the photos to see what we have been up to...

Carol singing is so much fun!
We have been working on our tradition pictures, frames and sharing.
This week we made cards for our Big Buddies.  We are so lucky to have them.

Polar Express Day was awesome!  We had a sock snowball fight in the gym with our Big Buddies.  We also got to go to the learning commons and we had hot chocolate as we listened to Mrs. Kidd read "The Polar Express".  We also begin making a small gift for our family.  We hope that you will like it!  It goes with our idea of having traditions in our family.

Only one more day to go...

Wishing everyone a safe and relaxing holiday season with family and friends.  See you on January 6th, 2020.

*- Still accepting donations for Fill A Sock until Monday.

-Carol singing begins next week, Tuesday, first thing after attendance has been taken.  You are welcome to join us in the learning commons for this.

-December 19th, last day of classes prior to Christmas break.

- January 6th is our first day back from the break.

Learning Highlights

Big Buddies teaching us how to play the board games that they made in math as part of their probability unit.

Our Fresh Air Friday activity today was going outside to snowshoe with our big buddies.  For twelve of us it was our very first time!

Once we were back inside we worked on our marshmallow 3D shapes.  We think they are super cool!
The toothpicks are the edges and the marshmallows are the vertices.

Dates To Remember:

December 12th is our Festive Evening.  The students are looking forward to performing a song they have been practicing in music.
December 16 is Polar Express Day
Our Fill a Sock Campaign continues for the rest of this week.  Here are some ideas of things that you could send in.
Last day of school before the winter break is December 19th.
School begins again January 6th, 2020.

Learning Highlights

In science this week we have been learning about warm and cool colors.  We are using this concept to create a frame for our traditions picture that we have been working on.  We also did this experiment called the black dot.  The question we were investigating was; What makes black?
We shared our hypothesis before we started the experiment.  We had t make sure that we followed the correct procedure, as scientists do.  It was so awesome to see what happened to the black dot as we added water drops to it.  We saw blue, brown, orange, pink and even some green come out of the black dot!

This week in math we are working to finish up our 3D shape projects and information charts.  Once our chart is completed we have to have an interview with Mrs. Hamby.  In the interview we have to be able to tell her about our project.  We have to identify the shapes we used.  We also have to show her how we counted faces, edges and vertices for some of our shapes.  If we didn't get the right information on our chart because we didn't count accurately she helps us to correct it.
Today we started building skeletons of shapes using toothpicks and marshmallows.  This also helps us to focus on edges and vertices of 3D shapes.

We continue to share our family traditions and are excited for our classmates to hear about what we do together as families.  We are learning that some families share similar traditions and we are excited to learn about some other family traditions that we have not had an opportunity to learn about before.  After sharing and drawing about our traditions we will also be writing about what we have shared.

Building Snow Villages from 3D shapes

Upcoming Dates

Fill a sock campaign begins this week.
Festive evening this Thursday, Dec. 12th.

Learning Highlights

Today we went outside to create 3D snow villages.   We had a great time working together and making some snow discoveries.  We discovered that even when the snow is powdery and you pack it, then it will stick together.  We were so happy to be outside, we spent almost two hours outside building!  At the end of the morning we all said that we just loved it so much!  What a great day.
